This fun DIY Eid keychain gift makes a fantastic gift for everyone this Eid. Hand them out at your iftar to your guests or put them in a gift for a teen. And making them is fun! We turned this into a family experience. My daughter, who is six, created the galaxy themed pink and black keychain. And I created the other two neutral keychains.

So grab the family and enjoy!

How to: DIY Eid Keychain Gift

Scroll down to see the instructions and supplies, condensed.

First, you’ll need your supplies! The links are all below, but here’s a recap: skewers, wooden beads, painters tape, acrylic paint, paint brush, suede cord string rope, scissors, keychain rings & Styrofoam.

Islamic Printable: Imam Ghazali Quote

Now let’s start making them! Place your wooden balls onto the skewers. Ours were small, so we broke them in half so they’d stay in the hole.

Next, determine what colors and patterns you’ll be doing on each ball. This is the time to tape off patterns you’d like to make on the balls.  We used painters tape at to create the half painted balls.

Now paint all the wooden balls. Stick the skewers into a styrofoam piece for cardboard, to dry. Let the paints dry, about two hours.

Apply a second coat of paint to each ball. Let dry.

Now it’s time to connect the faux leather string to the keyring. We opted for the leather suede variety pack and the variety pack of keychain rings, so each gift can be fully customizable.

You have two options to create the keychain. One grouping of three in a group, option 1. and three beads spilt up into their own strings. For either option you’re going to do the same beginning steps:

  1. Cut the string rope to the length desired – we did approximately 7-8 inches.
  2. Form a loop on the closed side.

3. Pull both of the loose ends through the loop, securing it onto the keychain ring.

4. Now gather the loose ends of the string together, and thread one wooden ball through.

Option 1 (cont.):

  1. Thread the string through two more wooden beads, for a total of three.
  2. Double knot the end.
  3. Trim the rope.

PHOTO Option 2:

  1. After the first wooden ball is through, tie a knot.
  2. Take one string and put one wooden bead through. Repeat with the other string.
  3. Make sure they’re the same length, tie each end.
  4. Trim the rope.

Give as Eid gifts!

Or create some for yourself and use the keychains right away!
